  14.      Synth Zone is an attempt to ease the search for synth resources on the
  15.      Internet . If you can't find the information or resources here then
  16.      please check out Harmony Central , Music Machines and Synth.Site as all
  17.      have very comprehensive information and resources for midi synthesizers.
  18.      And despite unavoidable overlap, each site has some very unique features
  19.      that are essential to check out. Support them and make good use of them
  20.      !!

  22.      You may have noticed advertising now at Synth Zone. For the site to grow
  23.      and become a more useful tool this has become necessary, though will be
  24.      limited to page top banners. As with all info on Synth Zone, advertising
  25.      will be pertinant to synthesizers and electronic music so please visit
  26.      those that interest you as it supports Synth Zone as well as our
  27.      sponsors. This is how Synth Zone will always remain a free service to
  28.      you.

  30.      Sorry to those who enjoy heavy graphic content but the intention is to
  31.      provide information and resource links as efficiently as possible. Given
  32.      current bandwidth that most users contend with, graphic enhancement
  33.      beyond basic presentation is not appropriate. Currently page changes are
  34.      quite fast even using low speed (9600-14000 ) connections. I wish to
  35.      also keep individual pages to a minimum length so load times of the HTML
  36.      text itself does not rise too high.

  42.      My intention is to concentrate on synthesizer resources such as patches
  43.      & associated software, however the nature of modern synthesis requires
  44.      that computer sequencing, recording and associated audio applications be
  45.      given attention. I will continue to provide up to date links to both
  46.      commercial & shareware/freeware software and also provide links to
  47.      hardware manufacturers. The other area of coverage which will also see
  48.      development in the very near future is support for effects processors
  49.      and MIDI controllers, and will be providing links to editor/librarians
  50.      and patches when available.
  51.      Any suggestions for new areas will always be considered.

  57.      For music software check out my Software Page which are links to
  58.      commercial & shareware sites with info & demos as well as software
  59.      archive pages & ftp sites. Another good place to start looking for audio
  60.      or midi software (such as shareware sysex & sequencing programs) is the
  61.      Mac Sound Tools Page which also has a very comprehensive PC Sound
  62.      Utilitites Page. You may need some of these tools to trasmit patches you
  63.      find on the Internet to your keyboard.

  67.      Uploading Materials

  69.      My home provider RAIN has been kind enough to provide me with an FTP
  70.      area so that I can make files available. Files can be sent to me via
  71.      email, and I will make them available.To be fair about my use of system
  72.      resources I must insist on a few basic rules. (yeah I know, I hate rules
  73.      too but if sites like this are to survive there's got to be a little
  74.      give & take).

  76.      1. Goes without saying but I'll say it. Absolutely NO unauthorised
  77.         commercial software or patches. This is not only unfair to the
  78.         authors, but would also risk Synth Zones future.
  79.  
  80.      2. Please make sure that the files you wish to send are not already
  81.         available on the Internet at alternate sites. A simple link to the
  82.         files would be more appropriate. The exception to this would be
  83.         overseas sites that continually have very poor access.
  84.  
  85.      3. Email me first before sending the files to let me know a little info
  86.         about the material that you wish to send, in case it is already
  87.         available or I have received it from someone else.
  88.  
  89.      4. No samples .... sorry but that would chew up much more space than I
  90.         can afford to use. There are already quite a few good sample archives
  91.         ( to which I provide links ) and can generally be converted between
  92.         the various sample based synths. The exception to this would be
  93.         particular files unavailable anywhere else, I would mount temporarily
  94.         by request.

  96.      5. Not a rule, but if possible provide authorship of the patches sent.
  97.         This not only helps establish the non-commercial status of the
  98.         patches/programs but also allows me to provide credit to the author
  99.         with the link. Where possible provide patches/programs in sysex form
  100.         so they are useable by everyone. Proprietry editor file formats are
  101.         often not a lot of use to the majority of users. If
  102.         shareware/freeware software is being sent ,try to provide the
  103.         platform it's intended for as well as any specific configuration
  104.         requirements. A brief email description or readme.doc will suffice.

  111.      Generally except for some older model synths, what you see linked on
  112.      Synth Zone is all there is available on the Internet at present. New
  113.      models never usually have much available until they have been out for a
  114.      year or two, and resources will be linked as they become available. All
  115.      pages at Synth Zone are oriented towards the need of keyboardists,
  116.      including the Misc Links . Otherwise feel free to contact me for
  117.      assistance. I will try and reply as promptly as possible, though
  118.      sometimes the volume of email make this difficult. At these times, I
  119.      tend to answer those that I know I can help. But I will always try to
  120.      respond to all email when possible.
  121.      Please don't ask me how to operate particular synths, as although I've
  122.      used quite a few there are many models that I provide links for, that I
  123.      haven't ever used. It is always best to contact Webmasters at sites that
  124.      specialize in your particular model. If you don't receive an answer from
  125.      me it may be that your mail was never received by me, my response to you
  126.      was bounced back to me as undeliverable or I may have inadvertently
  127.      overlooked it or lost it due to system problems. Please recontact me if
  128.      you this has happened to you.

  131. Follow these guidelines and I'll be happy, RAIN will be happy and you will
  132. have a functional & useful site to make use of. Synth Zone doesn't care if
  133. all you do is download ( unlike some sites ) . This site is here for that
  134. very purpose. Use it as much as you need to, and all I ask is that you
  135. promote Synth Zone by occasionly adding to lists or to newsgroup queries
  136. where appropriate.
